Wound Dressing Selection

Wound dressings are products that support wound healing of a recoverable healable wound or optimize the management of a palliative maintenance wound. An ideal dressing meets the needs of both the wound and the client as well as addressing the characteristics of the wound and the client’s risk factors. As such, it absorbs or donates moisture, provides insulation, protects tissue from secondary infection, controls odour, is free from toxic components, and is removable without trauma and with minimal discomfort to the client. NB: Not all maintenance wounds are palliative in nature.
